Time to Experiment!
-
This experiment lets children observe density! First, they will see that the oil floats on top of the water (meaning it is less dense). They will continue to observe density as they see which items float on the oil, the water, or sink all together!
-
First- Help your child(ren) fill the jar halfway up with water
-
Then, ask them to carefully pour the oil on top.
-
Before dropping each item into the jar, ask them to predict what will float on the oil, what will float on the water, and what will sink all together!
-
-Optional record predictions and results in the recording sheet. (Note, we left space to fill other items in you want to test!
