Materials Needed

  • Empty Bottle

  • Vinegar

  • Baking Soda

  • Balloon

Time to Experiment!

  • Pour some vinegar into the bottle you are using.

  • Carefully scoop some baking soda into the balloon - this is easier if you have some type of funnel.

  • Then ask your child what they think will happen when you place the balloon on top of the bottle. (If they have done one of our baking soda and vinegar experiments in the past they may have an idea)!

  • Pull the balloon tight over the top of the bottle and shake it to make the baking soda go into the bottle.

  • Watch the balloon fill up!

  • Explain that the baking soda and vinegar combine to make a gas - carbon dioxide which goes into the balloon, filling it up!
