Materials Needed

  • Various foods

  • Food observation page

Time to Experiment!

  • Please note this activity can only be done assuming children are NOT ALLERGIC to the foods being consumed! For sense of taste be very careful to make sure it is a small enough portion that they cannot choke.

  • Place food dishes all around-note if you are not doing this with a group, you could also do this with small portions of food or with small scoops of spices.

  • Ask your children to use their senses to make observations and record them on the page.

  • Another option for this activity is to put small bits of food in a container that a child cannot see through. They must then use their senses to guess what the item is! Naturally for this option they will be only able to use their senses of: smell, taste, and touch. For sense of taste be very careful if the child is not actually looking at the item to make sure it is a small enough portion that they cannot choke.
