Let's Create!

  • This sensory experiences utilizes the cards - available for download above.

  • Show your child(ren) the cards - read them out loud to them, really giving them time to really look each image. Though children in the baby-toddler age group may not understand exactly what you are telling them it is still a wonderful opportunity to expose them to this scientific learning while also building their vocabulary!

  • Each card also lists optional sensory activites you can do alongside each caterpillar to butterfly stage to engage your child's sense of: sight, touch, and even taste!

  • These cards are fun to use at home, however if you are able to, go on a butterfly adventure, take the time to look for butterflies as you walk around, see if you notice any caterpillars and point them out to your child! (Be careful not to touch - many caterpillars are safe but some can sting)! Many zoos and other nature conservatory places have a butterfly house to visit as well!

  • If you would like to encourage butterflies in your yard - monarchs specifically, try planting some native milkweed, you may even be able to (carefully) spot some tiny eggs!
